Identity
To the casual observer, Haxami is a cipher, a shadow cast against the travertine-lined municipal offices of Toh'Ehn, where he perfected the art of being unremarkable. He often adopts the guise of a mid-level diplomat โ modest, muted grays and a face practiced in a "mildly exhausted" expression โ but this is merely one tool in a kit forged from necessity and cold calculation. His true talent lies in the absolute mastery of hiding in plain sight, blending into any social strata until he becomes as invisible as the ink on a forged page: a ghost haunting the machinery of bureaucracy, which he weaponizes with mass, silent destruction.
He is an Elf of Wood Elf lineage โ male (they/he), thirty-four years old, six-foot-two, black-haired and blue-eyed, tan from a life on the shores. He treats his own body as a tool of the trade: a chameleon capable of mimicking speech patterns and accents with an unerring precision that lets him dismantle environments from the inside.
The Psyche
Kinetic Stillness
His most unsettling trait is a kinetic stillness that mocks the frantic energy of the living. He does not fidget or pace; when he sits, it is with the calculated economy of a predator waiting for the inevitable convergence of flawed variables. His pointed ears โ tall and alert โ twitch with a kinetic awareness that maps a room in heartbeats and distances, treating every footstep as a digit in a complex equation of survival. This stillness is his primary defense: an emotional void that forces others to fill the silence with their own insecurities and secrets, while he remains an unblinking observer of the Game.
Constructed Cynicism
Haxami operates on a psychological framework of Constructed Cynicism โ a suit of armor donned after the "honorable scout" he once was died many passings ago on the northeastern shores, discarded by a commander who found the weight of pirate coin heavier than loyalty. That trauma forged a specific internal logic: everyone is either a player or a pawn, and those who seem the fairest are merely those with the most elaborate disguises.
In the field he projects a Mask of Innocence, playing the "hopeful fool" seeking a lost inheritance, because he understands that mortals are addicted to their own perceived superiority. He currently carries a sealed note for a Handler he has never met โ a test of discipline that serves as the ultimate gambit, for to open the note is to lose the Game and remain a pawn forever.
The Architecture of a Survivor
In a clinical light, Haxami presents the architecture of a high-functioning trauma survivor, his psyche a fortress built of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress and Machiavellian adaptation. His hyper-vigilance and kinetic stillness are the hallmarks of a nervous system locked in permanent high alert; his professional apathy is emotional numbing, keeping the ghosts of the Bloodied Sands at bay. His calculated symbiosis with others โ even those as close as the changeling Y'Jani โ reveals an inability to form secure attachments, favoring transactional safety over the vulnerability of genuine connection.
The Bloodied Sands
He remembers the betrayal with terrible clarity: the moment he understood that his own superior had sold the scouting party, and the helplessness of grasping it too late โ dispatched into a raiders' ambush he could no longer call off. What comes after is a wound with no edges. He recalls being struck down; he does not remember the long dark between the killing blow and the moment the changeling Y'Jani found him among the dead, and his recovery from that place remains blurred and unaccountable to him. He has never needed to explain the gap to himself โ survival was enough โ but it is the one stretch of his life he cannot map, and he does not look at it directly.
The lesson he took from the sand was total. Not that one commander was corrupt, but that loyalty is the most easily counterfeited currency there is โ that anyone may be sold by the person they trust most. It is the root of his general distrust, worn smooth by repetition.
Of the rescue itself he says little. He and Y'Jani are as close as two people whose lives revolve around conniving and deception can be: each has learned more about the other than either would willingly surrender, and from that mutual exposure grew something like a kindred bond. But it is a closeness measured in inches of trust. Before anything else, they are each other's best and most reliable contact.
Fracture Points
He views companions through the lens of that symbiosis โ assets to be protected with the same ferocity he would accord a valuable piece of equipment โ yet he is incredibly slow to trust, for trust is a currency he saw devalued in the bloodied sands of his youth. Still, several fracture points exist within this cold, transactional worldview, moments where the Mask might become the true face:
- Should a companion risk their life for him and refuse repayment, it would create a cognitive dissonance his cynicism cannot solve โ an act of unpayable, genuine altruism that might force him to reconsider the fundamental rules of his world.
- If he encounters an innocent soul being exploited by the same corrupt systems he once served, his professional apathy may fail him, leading him to intervene without strategic gain.
Eventually, the organic, messy loyalty of his adventuring party will clash with the decentralized coldness of the Ophidian โ and in that choosing, Haxami Bruja will decide whether he is a man who manipulates systems, or a man who finally believes in people. As he steps onto the deck of the ship, his tethered daggers coiled like sleeping vipers, he knows the board is set and the opening move is his.

Traits, in his own words
"I am always calm, no matter what."
"I am incredibly slow to trust. Those who seem the fairest often have the most to hide."
