Marellius — where he came from
Thread page · the origin the player is looking for, and what is actually there
Standing — read this first
This page is different from the other threads: the answer is decided. Jack settled it on 2026-09-07, as DM. It is not in canon because the dossier records what the player said, and the player does not know any of this. Nothing here goes in front of the table until it is played. For what Marellius himself knows, read the dossier — Marellius. Where this page and that disagree about what he knows, the dossier is right.

Settled, in one line
A Fire Genasi wizard and cook, orphaned, taken in at Deepwater Hold by Munro and Rasha Tohan between his fifth and thirteenth year, with no memories before that. He found something at the Academy that sent him looking for his own past. Onda is a stop on that road. That is the dossier. Everything below is behind the screen.
The open question
The dossier leaves two blanks: who he came from, and why there is nothing to remember before Deepwater Hold. This page treats them as one question, because they have one answer.
The answer
Decided 2026-09-07. In Jack’s words where he gave them.
- Marellius is from B’har, a different plane. He escaped B’har accidentally through the fire plane, and through the fire plane found an escape into Jinjara through the Cauldron.
- In B’har he was a grown man with a whole life. In his escape he was remade into a boy. He only remembered his name from his previous life — Marellius.
- He does not know this. He is on a quest to reclaim his memories, and the memories of his childhood do not exist. He was remade, so there was nothing to remember.
- He was discovered as a young boy in Jinjara with one artifact, a fire pearl. His parents are not sure how he came to be in Jinjara. They only know they found him with it.
- The Tohans kept the pearl from him. He has never seen it.
- The pearl has woken up. They are frightened of it and want it out of the house. They will stop by Onda at some point to deliver it to him.
- When he holds it, it gives him nothing. Warm, and silent.
- The only thing that can tell him what he is, is the place he came through. Gher Ehntir, the heart of the Cauldron, remakes spirits into forms and would know one it remade. The answer is a place, not a person, and the road to it runs south.
- What he was doing in B’har when the accident happened is left open. Settle it when B’har matters.
Considered, not taken
The alternatives put in front of Jack on 2026-09-07. Kept so the tapestry pass can see what was passed over. None of these is killed; each simply lost to the line above it.
- Before the remaking: a fire spirit that took mortal shape coming through · already a Genasi boy in B’har, only wiped.
- The pearl: he carries it and never knew what it was · sold or lost years ago, so the quest is finding it.
- What he knows: he knows the Tohans have it and wrote home for it · he knows it exists as a keepsake and never thought to ask.
- Why now: one of the Tohans is dying · plain conscience on a trade run, no trigger.
- What the pearl gives: the crossing, not the life · pieces of the man in B’har.
- Who can tell him: a Kizan Pearl Caste seer who reads it · nobody, and the arc ends with him choosing the life he has.
- The accident: working fire and it got away from him · fleeing something in B’har that may still be looking.
What canon already says
Anchors that need no invention. Read them before writing any scene on this thread.
| Fact | Source | What it carries here |
|---|---|---|
| Gher Ehntir is the heart of the Cauldron, the joining point where newly forged spirits enter Jinjara before joining their destined physical forms | Great Spirits | The remaking. He came through as something and took a form. This is the whole mechanism, already written. |
| Gher Ehntir inspires smiths, artists and performers, and is tied to the suffering of perfecting a craft | Great Spirits | A wizard who cooks came through the patron of craft. Free resonance. |
| The Cauldron erupted in 415 AC and made the Southern Wastes | Geography, History | The answer is in the south. Act three is already south of the reef. |
| Obara sends the dead on to be remade in a form that fits their deeds | Great Spirits | Remaking is a thing Jinjara already does to souls. He is not the first. |
| Deepwater Hold has no recorded location | Dossier · Deliberately Unwritten | Free to place it south, or to explain how a boy got north from the Wastes. |
| What state he was in when found is not recorded | Dossier | The pearl fills that gap without contradicting anything. |
New to the setting
B’har, the fire pearl, and an elemental plane of fire have zero hits anywhere in canon. Nothing contradicts them. They are inventions, and B’har in particular is undefined beyond “a different plane.”
Hooks
Each names where it could fire.
1 · The Tohans put in at Onda — beat 7
Munro runs boats. Their ship comes in on a trade run and they bring the pearl. He has never seen it. They tell him it woke up. Which act is not placed.
2 · Cold open 5, how he was found — owed
The pearl is in the scene now. The Tohans find a boy and a pearl. Cold open 5 is still written without it.
3 · Cold open 7, what he found at the Academy — owed
Canon has him learning there is an artifact that unlocks memories. He has never seen the pearl, so the discovery is about such artifacts in general, not about his. Cold open 7 needs that version.
4 · The pearl is silent — after beat 7
He holds it and gets nothing. This is the first time the quest fails in front of him. Do not explain it at the table.
5 · The Cauldron — act three
The party is already going south of the reef. The Cauldron is where he learns he was remade and that there was never a childhood. Not built.
What he’d trade for it
For the weave. Not ruled. Jack has not said what he would pay to know. The ambition on the dossier is also still unaimed.
The sheet
Not recorded. Level 4 per the session recaps. School, AC, HP and kit are unwritten. Dita’s Bracelet is his, given in session 4 — see Items.
